This apparatus was developed by the Transport Research Laboratory in the UK and is manufactured under licence.

It is designed for ease of use.
The sliding is hammer is lifted to the correct pre-set height and a release mechanism allows it hammer to fall into the mould, compacting the sample.

A trip-counter records then umber of hammer blows.

Supplied complete with a mould, fibre discs and a vernier depth gauge for penetration measurement.
